Dental Laboratory Technicians manufacture artificial dental prosthesis such as crowns, bridges and denture according to the specifications given by the dentists. A dental technician plays a significant role in the field of dentistry. A dentist needs a dental technician for his dental practice.
There is plenty of job opportunities in this field as the number of corporate hospitals and private clinics is increasing each year. So there is a need for paramedical staff like dental assistants, dental technicians, dental hygienists, etc. who provide dental support services. The dentists and technicians work as a team to deliver the best results for the patients.
The work of a dental technician includes:
Restoring natural teeth ( crowns, inlay / onlay, veneer)
Replacing teeth ( bridges, partial and complete dentures, dental implant prosthesis )
Moving, retaining and protecting teeth.
Dental technicians receive a model (replica of the patient’s mouth) or a dental impression from the dentist. The impression is poured and a model is created for the technician to wok upon. The model is prepared and the process of fabrication of the dental prosthesis begins. The process of fabrication of Fixed Partial Denture(FPD), Removable Partial Denture (RPD) and Complete Denture (CD) differ. As per the doctor’s instruction, a dental technician manufactures the product.
Each year numerous professionals are passing out from private and government dental colleges. Each dentist requires a dental technician for successful practice. There is an increasing demand for dental technicians too.
Students who have successfully completed plus two can do the job oriented course and can become independent by the age of 18. This is highly advantageous for students who want to start earning at the earliest.
Technicians can work in small scale and large scale dental laboratories. Experienced dental technicians got promoted as team leaders, managers, quality control executives, etc in the organization. Technicians who have good entrepreneurial skills can also set up their own dental lab and give the opportunity to many others.
