Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc) in Dental Technology

The three-year B.Voc program is for all students with a +2 qualification from any stream. The curriculum is divided into six semesters, blending foundational dental sciences with advanced technical training. Key components include:
● Dental Materials Science: Study of ceramics, polymers, and alloys used in prosthetics.
● Dental Mechanics: Study of various procedures involved in the fabrication of different types of dental prostheses.
● Digital Workflow Integration: Training in CAD/CAM technologies, including Exocad software for designing crowns, bridges and implant-supported prosthetics.
● Infection Control Protocols: Sterilization techniques and safety standards for dental laboratories.

Work-Integrated Learning Program (WILP) and Industry Collaboration

Integration with SGSU’s WILP Framework

Cochin Dental Institute’s collaboration with UGC Approved, Scope Global Skills University (SGSU) under the WILP framework ensures that 70% of the curriculum involves on-the-job training (OJT) in dental laboratories and dental clinics. This model, accredited by the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), allows students to:

  • Apply theoretical concepts in real-world settings, such as fabricating prosthetics under the guidance of experienced dental technicians.
  • Gain exposure to digital dentistry workflows both in dental clinic as well as dental laboratory, which includes  digital impression,  Exocad’s Model Creator, Smile Creator module, 3D-printed dentures and implant-supported restorations which run the modern dental  clinics and labs.
  • Participate in industry-led workshops on advancing technologies.
  • Hands on training in assisting dental clinicians on patient cases.

What is NSQF?

The NSQF is an outcome and competency-based framework which organizes qualifications according to a series of levels of knowledge, skills, aptitude, and responsibility levels defined in terms of learning outcomes which the learner must acquire through formal, non-formal or informal learning which may comprise of academics, vocational education, training & skilling and experiential learning including relevant experience and proficiency/ professional levels acquired, subject to assessment.

PLACEMENT

We provide 100% placement support to eligible candidates.

AISECT and NSDC Partnerships

As an AISECT Skill Knowledge Partner, the institute aligns its programs with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) standards, ensuring every  graduate meets sector-specific competency benchmarks. This partnership facilitates access to:

  • NSQF-aligned certifications, enhancing employability in both public and private healthcare sectors.
  • Educational loans and CSR-funded scholarshipsfor economically challenged students.

What is AISECT?

It is India’s leading Social Enterprise, working in the area of Skill Development and Higher Education and ICT based services, to empower people, generate employment for the youth and unfold entrepreneurial initiatives.

What is NSDC?

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is a not-for-profit public limited company established in 2008 by the Indian government. It is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and operates under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). Its main goal is to promote skill development in India by funding and developing vocational training centers, especially those that are accessible, profitable, and aligned with industry needs.

OUR SPECIALITY

Digital Workflow Integration

The students also transition to digital tools:

  • Exocad Training: Comprehensive modules cover designing crowns, bridges, veneers, and implant abutments using Exocad’s CAD software.
  • 3D Printing and Milling: Practical sessions on converting digital designs into physical prosthetics using dental lab scanners, 3D printers and CNC machines.
  • Smile Design and Occlusal Analysis: Advanced courses on aesthetic planningand bite adjustment using digital smile simulation tools.
  • Digital Dental Assistant Training:  It focuses on equipping dental assistants with the skills to handle digital technologies within a dental practice, like digital imaging using intraoral scanners. It can help dental assistants to streamline workflows, enhance efficiency and contribute to the overall digital transformation of a dental office.

Certification and Multiple Exit Options

UGC-Approved Credentials

Upon completion, graduates receive SGSU-awarded certifications recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC):

Courses on Dental Technology

  • UG Certificate in Dental Technology (After Year 1): Qualifies graduates as dental ceramist or CAD designer for fixed prosthodontics.
  • UG Diploma in Dental Technology (After Year 2): Enables roles as dental ceramist or orthodontic technician or denturistor CAD designer for fixed and removable prostheses.
  • Voc Degree (After Year 3): Opens pathways to specialized positions as dental ceramist or orthodontic technician or denturist or CAD designer for fixed, removable and implant prostheses or  implant technician or maxillofacial technician.
